Have you heard a corporate guy refer to another as very arrogant? How did you decipher that? There is something that people who have achieved status adopt easily because of the kind of security they posses and here I mean financial security. It is commonly known as self actualization and they live happily because of their status. If you listen to some individuals in our society speak, you will appreciate the kind of confidence they posses, this is what is commonly known as ‘corporate arrogance’ in the world of finance and jobs.
Can a job applicant posses it? Oh Yes he can. How? The first thing you need to realize is that this is not a rule or regulation, it is just a mindset and no one will impart it in you but yourself.
I have attended thousands of interview panels and I can tell you that there are some questions that we ask that will require a lot of confidence in answering. Just imagine questions like:1. Tell us about yourself?
2. What salary do you expect us to pay you?
3. Explain these gaps in employment.
4. Tell us of a situation where you have solved a problem.
5. Sell to us your pen?
6. Why were you fired from your previous employer?
These are not the only questions that will require confidence, all of them require confidence. At this point, I will advise you to adopt some corporate arrogance. In explaining facts in your CV, gaps in employment or even reasons for termination from your previous employment, any stammer that you will have will depict insincerity.
There are a few things that can give you ‘corporate arrogance’ but you need to live them and not apply them only when you are being interviewed only. You need this style throughout your career because when you present an idea you look sure and like you know what you are saying. People tend to agree more with people who are arrogant with facts but be careful not portray the ignorance of the people you address. I know you have heard of people referred to as ‘authorities’ in a given field. When someone is an authority, he knows extensively the facts in a specific field.
Here are a few pointers that can help you in understanding and gaining ‘corporate arrogance’
1. Never be desperate about a job or anything and if you are never show it. When going into an interview, approach it like you do NOT need the job or as a general conversation.
2. Be satisfied with your status whether poor or rich.
3. Fake it till you make it. Ever heard of this saying? If you don’t have behave like you do, for sure you will.
4. Positive thinking especially about self. Love yourself.
5. Do extensive research and know basic facts about life and your area of specialization.
6. Learn to relate things when asked about anything.
7. Say you don’t know if for sure you don’t. Do NOT ever lie to knowing something which you don’t.
8. Be careful about your facial expressions because they need to be positive even when you are giving a negative response. Otherwise your arrogance will be a vice
9. Love others and be friendly. Create links and networks.
This and more will help your self esteem but we sum it up into one, positive thinking and loving yourself.
We at HCC wish you all the best.
