Monday, July 13, 2026- A woman and her father were shot and killed in Saqqez, western Iran, in what rights groups describe as a deadly attack carried out by the woman's former husband.
The victims, identified as Fereshteh Rahmanzadeh and her father, Ali Rahmanzadeh, were reportedly attacked at a garden house near Saqqez as the suspected gunman fled the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation into the killings.
The shocking incident has renewed concern over deadly domestic violence and the safety of women following separation or divorce.
Human rights organizations say such cases continue to highlight the urgent need for stronger legal protections, faster intervention in high-risk situations, and greater accountability for perpetrators of gender-based violence.
As investigators work to locate the suspect and determine the full circumstances of the attack, the case has drawn widespread attention across the region. Advocacy groups are calling for swift justice and renewed efforts to address violence against women, warning that without stronger safeguards, similar tragedies are likely to continue.
