Monday July 27, 2026- Newly released autopsy findings have revealed heartbreaking details about the final hours of former child actor Blake Garrett, who died at the age of 33.
The report states that Garrett was found unresponsive beside his bed at a sober living facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Investigators also found drug paraphernalia nearby, including rolled dollar bills, burnt foil, and a lighter. The medical examiner ruled his death an accidental overdose caused by acute fentanyl toxicity.
The report also noted that Garrett had recently sought emergency medical treatment for severe pain after being diagnosed with shingles. According to his mother, he had been sober for about three years, and she believed he may have attempted to manage the intense pain on his own, leading to the tragic overdose. Medical examiners additionally documented brain swelling and healing shingles lesions during the examination.
Garrett was best known for his role in the 2006 family film How to Eat Fried Worms before stepping away from acting and living a more private life. The release of the autopsy report has renewed conversations about addiction recovery, the dangers of fentanyl, and the importance of access to safe pain management for people in recovery.
