Choosing the right shoes to a job interview

Have you ever heard that ladies asses a man first by the kind of shoes he is wearing? Fact is that a shoe is a very important part of our dressing. I know as a job seeker you may not have much of a choice but if you can afford or spare a few coins, please heed to our advice on this subject matter. Just imagine an interviewer walking in limping because his/ her shoes pinch or if one of the interviewers’ shoes is showing his finger? It will be very uncomfortable for you as an interviewee. It will be even worse if the opposite was to take place. You need to be careful as we have said before on impression.

In an interview you need to choose shoes that are very comfortable but they necessarily have to follow the following general guidelines:

Ladies
1.   If you are deciding what type of footwear to wear to the interview, you should wear shoes that are comfortable as opposed to fashionable.
2.   What shoes you should wear depend on the interview you are going for. The shoes an office assistant will wear differ from what an engineer will wear on their feet to the interview or even during working hours.
3.   Wearing high heels at a job interview isn't always a good idea; even though high heeled shoes can look fashionable, for most jobs they may not be the most suitable shoes. Wearing high heels in a job interview where you would never wear them if you worked there may give the interviewer the impression that you do not fully understand the job's responsibilities.
4.   When going to job interviews for office work, wearing a small heel could work, particularly if you are wearing trousers that are too long for you.
5.   Wearing high heels sometimes improves confidence. You may try them especially for ladies with a good skirt that reaches your knees. They can be bright but much them with any attire in your dressing.
6.   Do not go to a job interview wearing very high heels if you have not often used them before because you risk falling over which could cause you embarrassment and potentially an injury.
Men

·         The shoes you wear to a job interview will depend on the job you are applying for. If the job is based in an office environment, then wearing smart shoes is essential.
·         Under no circumstances should you consider wearing trainers, as this will make you look scruffy. However, if you are a fitness instructor and you are applying for a job in a gym, then wearing trainers would be acceptable.
·         The shoes you should wear to a job interview are entirely dependent on where you are actually applying to work. For men there isn’t much of a description, just wear what you are comfortable with.

Avoid shoes that have been repaired severally. They should be polished and well maintained. Shoes should portray your personality thus wherever a job interview takes place, the most important thing to remember is to be comfortable in the footwear you have chosen.

We at HCC wish you all the best.
