Wednesday, April 16, 2025 - Children are a blessing, but they can also bring overwhelming surprises, as Mercy Kurgat from Chepkosa village in Bomet County has discovered.

The mother of five was shocked when she gave birth to triplets at Chelymo Hospital in Silibwet town, suddenly becoming a mother of eight.

The babies, born prematurely on Wednesday, are currently under observation in the hospital’s neonatal unit.

“I thank God for blessing me with these babies,” Mercy said, “but I don’t know how we’ll raise them.”

“Life has already been difficult with the five I have.”

Mercy and her husband, Wesley Kurgat, rely on small-scale farming to support their growing family.

With limited resources, the couple is struggling to meet even the most basic needs - food, clothing, and medical care.

Hospital staff say the triplets are stable but emphasize that ongoing care will be critical once they’re discharged.
