After we started naming and shaming all those employers who are taking advantage of job seekers, we have received a number of questions asking as about the indicators of fraud. The base level is that if anyone asks for any money giving any flimsy reason like processing fee or transport to the interview or any other, please treat that email or the form of communication they used with the contempt it requires.
I have been in the HR industry for quite a long time to know that anyone giving you a job or calling you to an interview does not ask for money and at this point I want to say that
‘NEVER PAY MONEY TO BE INTERVIEWED, FOR TRANSPORT, PROCESSING FEE OR ANO OTHER REASON TO ANY ONE.’ I bolded these writings because that is the base reason why these fraudsters advertise these jobs both in the newspapers and job sites. We have taken it upon ourselves to notify you any of these people and we will even spend our company resources to arrest them. But today we want to share a few indicators of fraud and if you notice any of them, please email us immediately.
Indicators of fraud:
1. If someone purports to pay so much money, they should be able to pay for transport, processing fee or any other interview costs. A lot of money here does not mean hundreds of thousand but anything above 500/= is money.
2. If all applicants seem to qualify for the job and all are contacted. If you know anyone who applied for the job, contact them.
3. If the phone numbers are not working. Whether the numbers are working, they should belong to a physical office and if someone receives the call in a noisy place, babies crying at the background or generally in a non-office area, be careful.
4. If the physical address does not fit the company, in fact it belongs to some hardware or any other business. Visit the offices physically if possible.
5. If they contact you only through email. If they contact you through a phone, ask for the company number and the extension of whoever is calling you. Do not accept interviews from private numbers and private emails.
6. If an employer asks for money, why can't he deduct from the first salary? They will normally ask you to use Mpesa or an account number. DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY to get a job.
7. They claim the company was started in some year but the website was created a few weeks ago. Look at the website and you can know when it was formed. Be careful about fraudsters who make websites to get your confidence.
Please do NOT fall for these fools. If you have been asked for money or you suspect any job is a fraud, drop us an email and we will do a thorough due diligence for you for FREE.
In the event we note another fraud we will immediately let you know.
We wish you all the best.
